Marking Sections Complete

To ensure that your application is completed appropriately before submission, eGrants performs several verifications of the information you enter.  This process helps to eliminate the need for Program Offices to return applications for more information, which may cause delays in approval and awarding.

In each section of questions, some or all questions may require answers.  If a question is required, the entry field cannot be left blank when the grant application is submitted.

Some answers may be compared to answers in the same section.  For example, if you are budgeting for special education staff, you may be required to complete fields verifying the educator’s certifications.

The verification process is controlled by Business Rules applied to each section of questions.  The business rules prevent the entry of invalid or incomplete information.

The most important system check is the Mark Section Complete action.  Each section of questions must be marked complete before the grant application can be approved, printed and submitted.

When you select the Mark Section Complete option, the system:

Saves any unsaved data entry;

Checks business rules;

Checks that all required answers have been entered;

Displays any errors or incomplete information for correction if the section cannot be marked complete;

Converts the fields to “read-only” if the section can be marked complete;

Displays a checkmark on the section in the Project Detail screen for verification.

Mark Section Complete > Step-by-Step

Marking a section complete is the final step of data entry.  The action performs a final check of the business rules and verifies that all required answers are complete.

To mark a section complete:

1.       From the current Grant Application Detail screen, click a section name to display its questions.  The Grant Application Section Detail screen appears.

2.       Review the questions to ensure that all answers have been completed.

3.       Scroll to the bottom of the screen, if needed.

4.       Click the Mark Section Complete button.  The system verifies the rules and checks the section for completion.

5.       Scroll to the top of the screen, if needed.

6.       A red or green panel appears at the top of the screen:

Green:  A green panel indicates that the section has been marked complete.  Click Return to Grant Application Detail.

Red:  A red panel indicates that some business rules have not been satisfied or some answers are incomplete.  The message indicates the question or questions to correct.  Correct the answers, check business rules and click Mark Section Complete until the section can be marked complete successfully.

7.       After marking the section complete, click Back to Grant Application Detail to continue.  A checkmark appears beside the completed section for reference.  Continue to select other sections for data entry as needed.

TO RESUME EDITING AFTER MARKING COMPLETE:  After a section is verified and marked complete, you can use the Make Section In Process button to continue editing.  However, you must mark the section complete after editing in order to submit the grant application.
